Holiday House NYC 2014

This holiday season is a very special one for us as it marks the first year that Lillian August has been included in one of the most elite New York City showhouses, the Holiday House at the historic Academy Mansion. Founded by Iris Danker seven years ago, the Holiday House Design Show supports the fight against breast cancer while celebrating the very best in interior design.

In the library by Lillian August sumptuous fabrics by Holland & Sherry make for an inviting window seat for one to look out onto the winter courtyard.

We chose to design the dramatic, wood-paneled library on the first floor of the mansion (which is bookmarked by the dining room by Amy Lau and the Living Room by Ally Coulter). The Lillian August design team of Rhonda Eleish, Lisa Hyman and Richard Cerrone found their inspiration for their design in the mansion’s courtyard and created a space to enjoy the natural beauty of the winter holiday season.

Winter whites bring the holiday landscape into the library.

Luxuriously cozy tweeds, cashmeres and wool upholstery bring comfort to the room, and one-of-a-kind pieces, including a Juniper console by Arete collection and a hand-blown Italian glass chandelier by Eleish van Breems, add dramatic accents in winter white. To further lighten the dark wood interior, the bookshelves are offset in white and the ceiling is upholstered in soft blue, marled wool.

A study for Clamdigger by Willem de Kooning adds a dramatic backdrop to the bar.

The sophisticated design is further elevated by the inclusion of two important de Kooning paintings that are for sale with a portion of proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

On the facing wall, a second de Kooning adds color and light to the room while a Juniper console by Arete collection illustrates the beauty of nature.
