Autumn in Connecticut is here and with it comes full social calendars, crisp mornings and fall foliage – this year, it’s an even more exciting season as it marks the first Fairfield County showhouse in over a decade. Connecticut Cottages & Gardens joined forces with showhouse-mastermind, Tony Manning to find a charming antique on the historic Old Post Road in Fairfield and we are honored to be a part of it. Here’s a look at how the Lillian August team approached the design of the Sitting Room at the 2015 Designer Showhouse on the Green.
Angela Camarda, a Senior Designer at Lillian August, is the eye behind this striking design. With a background in the fashion business, Angela spotted a burgundy suede boot in the pages of September’s Bazaar – which literally became the kickoff point for her design. Pulling inspiration from the Art Deco design of the original fireplace, Angela purposefully selected an eclectic mix of furniture styles, some traditional, some mid-century, all dressed in merlot and port colored fabrics that are warmed by the use of mixed metals.
Lillian August, herself also plays a role in the design choice in the room. Signature pieces from Lillian’s licensed furniture collection for Hickory White are featured here. Thom Bellucci, Senior Director for Lillian August Licensing, worked with Angela and Lillian to source furnishings from Lillian’s licensed collections. A dominating piece is the Gibson Chair, with its Retro 80s style and whimsical buttons covered in contrasting fabric.
This photograph by Lillian’s daughter-in-law, Lorin Klaris (and wife to Lillian August CEO, Dan Weiss) is part of the Lillian August for Wendover art collection. Its moody quality works beautifully in this dark and sophisticated setting.
The Sitting Room is full of interesting accessories that tell the story of the imagined person who could live here. The best part is that everything in the room is available for purchase at our Lillian August stores, so if you imagine yourself living here you can create the same look in your home by shopping our Lillian August Design Center. Not sure you can pull it off? Enlist one of our designers to bring the look to life.
Finally, here’s a look at the Sitting Room before Angela got to work on it. It’s amazing to see how far this space has come!
The showhouse is open from Saturday, September 19th – Sunday, October 25th, Tue – Sun, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
